The link between Morocco and Jerusalem goes back a long way. For centuries, Moroccans have been coming toAl-Quds on pilgrimage, but also to settle in the neighborhoods near the holy sites. The Moroccan Quarter in Jerusalem, founded in the 12th century, bears witness to this unique historical relationship between Morocco and the Holy City.

Moroccan rulers have always been keen to protect the holy sites in Jerusalem. King Hassan II, then his son King Mohammed VI, supported Palestinian causes and ensured the preservation of the city’s Muslim heritage. In 1969, under the reign of Hassan II, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was created, a structure designed to defend the interests of Muslim countries, particularly with regard to the question of Jerusalem.

The link between Morocco and Jerusalem is steeped in history and bears witness to a strong spiritual and political relationship between the two territories.
