Ouarzazate, nicknamed the“Gateway to the Desert“, is a town in southern Morocco with direct access to the Sahara. Known for its kasbahs and arid landscapes, the town is a favorite location for film-makers from all over the world. Famous films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia have been shot here.


One ofOuarzazate ‘s main attractionsis the Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient fortified palace that bears witness to Berber architecture. Also nearby is Aït Ben Haddou, a fortified village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an impressive example of the adobe architecture of southern Morocco.


In addition to its cinematic appeal, Ouarzazate is also a base for excursions into the desert,the Dades Gorge and the Draa valleys.
