Kenitra is a city located in the northwest of Morocco, about 90 km southeast of the city of Rabat. It is the capital of the Gharb-Chrarda-Beni Hssen region and the fourth largest city in Morocco. Kenitra is also an important industrial and economic center, with factories and companies in various sectors such as mechanical engineering, agri-food, chemicals and electronics.
The city is also known for its history and cultural heritage. Kenitra was once a Roman and Byzantine military base, and there are remains from those periods still visible in the city, such as the ruins of the Fort of Lalla Chafia. There are also many historic buildings, such as mosques, palaces and kasbahs, dating from the time of the Alaouite dynasty.
The city is also the birthplace of many famous Moroccan artists and influential figures in business and politics.
Finally, Kenitra is a place of great importance for agriculture, notably for the cultivation of wheat, barley, vegetables and fruits, and for livestock farming.
