
Berkane is a city located in northeastern Morocco, in the Oriental region. It is the capital of Berkane Province and is located about 50 km from the Algerian border.
Berkane is known for its agricultural production, notably for its citrus fruits such as oranges and mandarins. It is also the center of the garment textile industry. The city is the birthplace of many famous Moroccan musicians and artists, and is considered an important cultural center for chaâbi and Andalusian music.
Berkane is also a historical site, with remains dating from the Roman and Islamic periods. There are a large number of historical and religious monuments in the city, such as the Sidi Bouzid Mosque, the kasbah of Berkane and the fortress of Sidi Bouzid.
