The Chleuhs are a large Berber tribe living mainly in the Souss region, around the towns of Taroudant and Agadir. They are renowned for their skills in agriculture, trade and crafts, notably in the production of silver jewelry and carpets.
Chleu customs are very rich. Wedding ceremonies are grandiose events, marked by traditional songs and dances such as the Ahwash, a collective dance in which men and women respond to each other by singing and clapping. Weaving and silverwork are handicrafts handed down from generation to generation, making the Chleuhs masters of their craft.
Their language, Tachelhit, is also a pillar of their identity. Although many Chleuhs also speak Arabic or French, they are proud to keep their language alive through oral transmission and folk songs.
The Chleuhs of Souss are outstanding craftsmen and guardians of ancestral traditions, combining the beauty of their crafts with a culture deeply rooted in southern Morocco.
