While it is true that Chinese vaccines are being deployed in the experimental field, the one used in Brazil is not related to the vaccine with which Morocco is participating in clinical trials. Sinovac and CNBG Sinopharm are two different Chinese laboratories, and Morocco is dealing only with the latter.
Following an incident described as “serious” involving a volunteer, Brazil’s health authority suspended on November 9 the clinical trials of the CoronaVac vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinovac. As a result, confusion quickly arose with the other vaccine used in Morocco. But this is not the case. The Moroccan government has signed cooperation agreements only with Sinopharm, reports Le360.
Moreover, the CNBG Sinopharm laboratory is conducting its phase 3 clinical trials with Peru, Morocco, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Argentina. In these countries, Sinopharm is working with local pharmaceutical companies in order to support the research and development of the inactivated vaccine. In Morocco, for example, Sinopharm is collaborating with the pharmaceutical laboratory Sothema.
As a reminder, China has several experimental anti-COVID-19 vaccines in an advanced phase of development. Out of seven vaccines being tested worldwide, four from China are currently in phase 3 of clinical trials. Apart from CNBG Sinopharm, the other vaccines are being developed by Sinovac and CanSino Biologics. Indonesia and Brazil are taking part in the phase 3 clinical trials of the vaccine developed by Sinovac. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Russia, for their part, are participating in the phase 3 trials of CanSino’s vaccine, notes the same site.
