{"id":7028,"date":"2026-08-03T20:53:20","date_gmt":"2026-08-03T18:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chiquie.fr\/oujda-2\/"},"modified":"2026-08-03T20:53:20","modified_gmt":"2026-08-03T18:53:20","slug":"oujda-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chiquie.fr\/en\/oujda-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Oujda"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Oujda<\/strong> is the capital of eastern <strong>Morocco<\/strong>, the capital of the <strong>Masjids<\/strong> (<strong>mosques<\/strong>), or also the <strong>millennial<\/strong> city; it is one of the oldest cities of <strong>Morocco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located in the center of the Plain of <strong>Angad<\/strong>, in the northeast of the country, bordered to the north by the mountains of <strong>B\u00e9ni-Snassen<\/strong> and to the east by <strong>Algeria<\/strong>. Oujda was founded by the <strong>Zenata Berber chief Ziri Ibn Attia<\/strong> around 994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is the capital of the prefecture of <strong>Oujda-Angad<\/strong>, in the <strong>Oriental<\/strong> region; its proximity to Algeria makes it a crossing point between Morocco and Algeria. It is a major city of Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of its advantageous position at a rail and road junction, controlling traffic towards the <strong>High Plateaus<\/strong> and the <strong>South<\/strong> as well as transit to Algeria (this latter railway line has been closed since 1994), it has experienced rapid development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It serves as the <strong>regional capital<\/strong> for the whole eastern Morocco (administrations, commerce and services with a wide reach). It is situated in the heart of a fertile plain where <strong>wheat<\/strong>, <strong>olives<\/strong> and <strong>grapes<\/strong> are cultivated; <strong>goats<\/strong> and <strong>sheep<\/strong> are raised there. <strong>Industrial activities<\/strong>, relatively modest, are concentrated notably in the <strong>Al Boustane<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city has an international airport and several faculties and institutions of higher education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout its history, the vicissitudes experienced by Oujda were those of a border town passing from one power to another according to the fortunes of war and also a relay town on the <strong>Sijilmassa-Orient.<\/strong> After it was occupied by <strong>France<\/strong> in 1907, Oujda, faithful to the <strong>Alaouite Throne<\/strong>, contributed effectively to the struggle for Morocco&#8217;s independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the city&#8217;s monuments are <strong>Bab El Gharbi<\/strong>, an archaeological gate opening onto Oujda&#8217;s square, and <strong>Bab Sidi Abdelwahab<\/strong>, opening onto Abdelwahab Square.<br>Oujda is an ancient and important city of <strong>Morocco<\/strong>.
