It is the administrative capital of the region and the largest city of Western Sahara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by the Spanish, who used it as a base for their colonization of the region. Since then, it has become an important economic and cultural center for the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The population of Laayoune is mainly composed of Berbers, but there are also Arabs, Black Africans and Sahrawis. The city is also a place of coexistence between different cultures and religions, with a majority Muslim population and a significant Jewish community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Laayoune is also an important economic center for the region. The main industries are agriculture, fishing and mining. The region is rich in phosphates, an important raw material for the chemical industry. Fishing activities also have great importance for the city&#8217;s economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city of Laayoune is also an important cultural site for Morocco and for the Saharan region.
