Founded by <strong>Ibn Tumart, this dynasty transformed Morocco into a military force <\/strong>feared, influencing a vast region stretching from the <strong>Maghreb to the Iberian Peninsula<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ibn Tumart, a <strong>reformist preacher<\/strong>, preached a return to a purified Islam and rallied <strong>the Berber tribes <\/strong>around his cause. After his death, his disciple <strong>Abd al-Mumin<\/strong> took over, consolidating and expanding the Almohad empire. Under his leadership, <strong>the Almohads defeated the Almoravids and took Marrakech in 1147<\/strong>, establishing their capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most remarkable moments of the Almohad era was <strong>the Battle of Alarcos <\/strong>in 1195. Led by the Almohad caliph <strong>Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur<\/strong>, this battle saw the Almohad forces inflict a severe defeat on the Christian troops of Castile. This victory strengthened Muslim dominance in the Iberian Peninsula and delayed <strong>the Reconquista<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Almohads were also known for their impressive <strong>military architecture<\/strong>. They built numerous fortresses and ramparts, notably the famous <strong>walls of Marrakech and Rabat<\/strong>. These structures not only served to defend their empire but also to symbolize their power and sophistication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Almohad military system was well organized, with a standing army composed of cavalry, infantry and archers. They used shock and terror strategies to defeat their enemies, combining direct assaults with elaborate siege tactics. Their naval fleet was also formidable, controlling <strong>crucial maritime routes in the Mediterranean<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite their military successes, the Almohads ultimately encountered insurmountable challenges. The battle of <strong>Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 <\/strong>marked the beginning of their decline. This defeat against a coalition of Christian kingdoms weakened their control over Al-Andalus and precipitated their gradual withdrawal from the <strong>Iberian Peninsula<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Almohads also faced internal revolts and the rise of other rival dynasties, such as the <strong>Marinids<\/strong>. In 1269, the Marinids took Marrakech, marking the end of Almohad rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Almohads left their mark on Morocco&#8217;s military history with their rapid expansion and notable victories.
