Founded in 789 by Idris II, <strong>Fez<\/strong> is renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, bustling souks, and academic institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>History of Fez<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The history of <strong>Fez<\/strong> is marked by its foundation by the Idrisid dynasty in the 8th century. The city quickly prospered, attracting scholars, artisans, and merchants from across the Islamic world. Fez experienced its golden age under the Marinids in the 13th century, becoming a center of learning with the founding of the Al-Qarawiyyin University, the oldest continuously operating university in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Development and Modernization<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite its rich historical past, <strong>Fez<\/strong> has not remained frozen in time. The city has undertaken modernization efforts while preserving its heritage. The new city, or &#8220;Fez el-Jedid&#8221;, hosts modern infrastructure, hotels, and world-class restaurants, while maintaining a balance with the historic medina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Architecture of Fez<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The architecture of <strong>Fez<\/strong> is dominated by its medinas, which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The medina of Fez el-Bali is a maze of narrow alleys, souks, and historic monuments such as the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and the Bou Inania Madrasa. Traditional houses, or riads, with their inner courtyards and zellige decorations, are magnificent examples of Moroccan craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Culture and Urban Life<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fez<\/strong> is a vibrant cultural center with a strong academic and artistic tradition. The city hosts numerous festivals, including the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, which attracts artists from around the globe.
